LANCE CANINE TOOTH

Malocclusions that cause tooth on tooth or tooth on tissue damage need to be resolved. Providing patient comfort and preventing further problems is the goal in treatment. This young Sheltie has multiple problems with contact.

“Braces” or orthodontic devices can be placed in some patients to move teeth to avoid extraction.

A normal bite is the result following 4 weeks of movement and selective extraction of an incisor.

ORTHODONTICS

BASE NARROW CANINE TOOTH

Base narrow canine teeth result in trauma to the hard palate.

This patient has both lower canine teeth digging into the palate tissue.

You can see the trauma caused by the lower canine teeth here

Following a nerve block, a groove is placed in the tissue to create an incline. A composite is bonded to the lower canine tooth to allow the tooth move into the correct location when contacting the groove.

The composite is removed in 3-4 weeks and the patient’s palate trauma is resolved.
